Hello and welcome to this Summer edition of Athenry News & Views. As your representative for the Athenry/Oranmore Municipal District, I would like to share some of the key projects and initiatives I have been working on over the past few months to improve our communities and local infrastructure. Working with Coillte in removing Roadside trees that have become unsafe after recent storms, along with the clearance of the walkways in Monivea Woods. Secured funding for Bridge Rehabilitation Works: Carnakelly North Bridge €180,000. Killaclougher Bridge €50,000. Safety Improvement Works: Tample Cross €40,000 for new road design Flood Relief Works: Flood remedial work in Monivea village Caltragh Flood relief €30,000 Restoration Improvement works: Gloves West €192,500 Cloongah/Caltraghbreedy €167,716 Restoration and Maintenance (Surface Dressing): Gortnalone North €39,000 Killaclogher/Newtown €75,000 Discretionary Grants Cormachugh West €7,800 Garraunard €7,800 Much needed Improvement works is ongoing in Monivea village to make the area safe and accessible for the community. The upgrade works will include a new footpath installed with 2 extra street lights. In addition to the two new lights, the existing lights will also be upgraded to improve visibility. The existing footpath from McGann’s pub to Ard Aoibhinn estate will be replaced with a new safe and accessible walkway to improve visibility and safety

for residents and visitors. These are small but important improvements to the local areas. One of the most significant announcements this week is the Government’s allocation of €10 million towards the completion of the Northern Ring Road. This is a major investment that will bring substantial benefits to Athenry Town, improving traffic flow and supporting future growth and development. I would like acknowledge the huge achievement of Athenry Camogie club in the All-Ireland club final. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the players, management, and supporters, and hopefully the first of many successes to come. Over the past year and a half serving on the Council, I have had the privilege of visiting many local community organisations. I was delighted to spend time with the Athenry Men’s Shed and see first-hand the fantastic work being carried out there. I also visited the Active Retirement Group in Monivea, whose members make a valuable contribution to community life.
