Miles, Milestones and Momentum at Athenry A.C.

Athenry AC continues to go from strength to strength, with another busy and successful few months for the club. The senior club is always open to new members, whether you are an experienced runner or just looking to get active and meet new people get in touch with us and come try it out! secretary@ athenryac.com One of the highlights of the season was hosting a leg of the Galway 5K Series on 5th May 2026. The race was a huge success, with 717 runners crossing the finish line on the night. The men’s race was won by Evan O’Rourke of Maree AC in a time of 15:25, while Ellen Bermingham of South Galway AC was the first female home in 17:53. The club was extremely proud of how smoothly the event ran and would like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers, stewards, sponsors, and supporters who helped make the evening such a success. A special mention also goes to standout athlete Sean Doggett, who continues to impress at senior level. Sean is the current senior Irish 400m champion and recently stepped up to the 200m, where he achieved a personal best and claimed silver in the U23 men’s category. Preparations are already well underway for the club’s hugely popular annual St. Stephen’s Day 10K race. Early bird entries are now open, but you are encouraged to sign up quickly as the event sells out every year. Last year’s race was the biggest yet and another fantastic community occasion for Athenry and beyond. Runners, walkers and all abilities welcome!
