Winners from Athenry Camogie Club

Every year our school band takes part in the Athenry St.Patrick’s Day parade. This is a huge task involving 220 children playing drums, melodicas, percussion, bell lyres, accordions and tin whistles. This year was extra challenging as the weather was dreadful and we were afraid that the children and the instruments would be soaked wet. However we did not want to let down the hundreds of people who had lined the streets of Athenry in the rain and we made a very sodden procession through the town to huge cheers from the crowd.

We planted oak trees which we had grown from seeds last year and replaced our pond liner.

We were delighted to receive a request from our previous Principal Mr. John Connolly TD to speak to the students about his work in government. He gave us a lovely presentation detailing the election process and how he came to be elected. There were many questions from aspiring politicians and the visit ended with an invitation from Mr. Connolly to visit him in Dáil Éireann! Needless to say we didn’t need to be asked twice and the train has been already booked. Mr. Connolly was sent on his way with a cheer when he issued a request for no homework for the pupils. We took part in Seachtain na Gaeilge with a range of fun activities and Mother’s Day Art (below).
